There are different ways to celebrate thenew year. We have seen worst but we have always experienced the best. Themost popular way that we all do in common is Fireworks. Some say it is a tool to cast demons away for the new year. Other say it is a way to colour the sky. No matter the reason, we all wait for it especially when countdown begins. Sydney, Australia has one way of celebrating the new year with fireworks – full blast! This year, they added an extra blast on their firework presentation. For over 11,000 shells and 25,000 shooting comets fired from 15 locations, one not present at the venue can surely enjoy the grand fireworks display via interactive 360 degree fireworks video.
They sure have a high tech photography system for this. Valuing not more than $25,000, the city has set up 6 high definition cameras in the Opera House on New Year’s Eve. It is programmed to accurately capture 3 gigabytes of images in one minute. Pretty impressive, don’t you think? What’s even more impressive is the software used to stitch those images together in real time into one interactive fireworks display video. The company behind this marvel is no other than the 360 degree fireworks photograohy pioneers, Immersiview. Adrian Raneri mentioned in an interview how excited his team was in this project. Although it was their first time to handle fireworks as subjects in 360 degree photography, he was more than ecstatic than nervous. Here’s his say on the whole 360 degree fireworks photography in Sydney on New Year. “It allows you to be your own director. You don't just have to look where the camera is pointed, you look where you want to look. Only a handful of companies around the world producing 360 degree videos and similar technology was used to capture an Academy Awards after party earlier this year. It's a similar camera to what they use for Google Street View, except this is video, not still images.”
