Placing Images with Embedded Paths
Tuesday, 27 July 2010 14:11

After creating an image with the help of an embedded clipping path, you can make use of this image by placing it in your document. After this you need to access the path information and turn on the clipping path so that you can effectively turn off the background of basically the other potion of the image that is undergoing clipping. The following steps will tell you how to do this in adobe Indeisgn, Adobe Pagemaker and QuarkXpress. You can make use of TIFF as well as EPS images for this. The standard instructions here are given for the versions that are pre 2004. In the later versions, there might have been synthetic change in the dialogue boxes or the handling of the embedded path information might have been changed, however, the basic always remains the same. Also these instructions are to be carried out on the windows platform. When working on a Mac platform they might differ.

Firstly import the EPS from adobe Photoshop. To do this select the create frame from embedded path option in the EPS imports option when you place a file. To get the EPS option, you can check the “show import option” box when you select the image. Use the pull down menu to choose the appropriate clipping path. When importing the photo from coral photo paint, you can choose so from the EPS import options. If this image has a white mask you can select object, then clipping path and choose to detect edges. The same can be done while choosing to import TIFF from Adobe Photoshop. The show import options dialogue box will help you to make this choice.

To import the EPS from Adobe photo shop, you first select the item, then the clipping path and then choose the embedded path. You can choose the appropriate clipping path method. This dialogue box will also offer you the choice to adjust the image and the clipping path. When choosing the TIFF from photo paint, the QuarkXpress will see the path or the mask of the Photo paint TIFF as an alpha channel. Therefore, go to select item, then clipping and then alpha channel.

When using page maker and importing TIFF from adobe photo shop, no extra action is required. When importing EPS from coral photo paint, if the header is saved with colour, the clipping path area may appear to be non transparent on screen but it will print properly with the photoScript painter.
