Combining clipping paths with masks:

If you are thinking of buying software that allows you to clip paths with masks then Adobe Photoshop is a very good option. It allows you to control, filter as well as add effects to a particular portion of an image by isolating it. To better understand this lets take a situation where you use vectors to create layers of colours by clipping paths. You will notice that when you place a new shape over another it will create a layer underneath it. The layer will either show what is underneath it or completely block it.

1. The first thing you will do is create a background of your choice by either opening an existing one or creating a new one from scratch.
2. Now create a vector shape however you must make sure that you don’t lose clarity or details of your image. You can use the editing tools to edit the vector shape or add more shapes as per your desire.
3. Now let’s say you want to modify your vector shape. With the help of the component selection tool or the direct selection tool you can modify as well as move the shapes.
4. Your next step will be to add a raster mask to the vector layer. Through this step you can add effect or a filter to your layer. Click the Add Mask button, when the vector layer is selected, and you will see a square appear next to the vector mask thumbnail. This square is meant for controlling the opacity of your effect.
5. Now you are free to apply an effect to your vector layer.
6. Once you have gone through all these steps your next task is to add a visual element to your image. You can do this by creating a new layer and then adding a visual element sitting on top of the background. Modify the element if necessary.
7. Now let’s create a mask from your visual element by first selecting the element and then clicking the add mask button at the bottom of the Layer palette. You can change the size and opacity of the new mask as per your desire.
8. Now you can create a clipping path to control what is shown in the visual element layer. Go to Windows>Show Paths to access the path palette. You can use the direct selection tool to modify the path’s shape and with the help of component selection tool ensure that the element move on your desired path.
