Are you a fan of 360-degree panorama photography? You will definitely be grateful of Simon Sherwin, creator and developer of the PanoCalc app that calculates 360-degree panoramas for digital camera devices by providing its users the fields of view their panorama will have. In other words, it will help users calculate the number of shots to take to create high defiition panoramas even in 3D. Sherwin pre-configured the PanoCalc app with the specifications of selected cameras that the user uses. Although not all, configuration is fast and easy by filling out necessary information the app asks.
It can help you calculate and better prepare especially when your creating high resolution 360-degree panoramic virtual tours. Even with Gigapans, the PanoCalc 360-degree panorama calculator has 3:2 and 4:3 aspect ratios and can pre-determine the number of photos you'll be taking. Further, it calculates pictures in rows and in fact even those ovrlapping pictures as well are definitely counted. It also supports portrait and landscape orientations as well as normal and fisheye lenses for wide and spherical panoramas. Sherwin says that in using the very useful PanoCalc app, you need to get the camera's field of view by providing the focal length of the lens and the dimensions of the digital sensor. Sounds geeky? Surprisingly, getting these information is quite easy. Here's what he says, "If you are using a compact camera you should use figure the manufacturer gives as the '35mm lens equivalent' for the lens togewith one of the 2 options for 35mm equivalent. These options are for pictures with 3:2 aspect pictures or with 4:3 aspect ratio. Pressing save sensor button saves the current sensor dimensions which can then be recalled by choosing my sensor from the picker wheel. Whilst PanoCalc only displays simple, rounded-off numbers you can in fact enter your data to several decimal places and it will be calculated accordingly." He lastly reminds spherical panoramic photographers that in using the PanoCalc 360-degree Panorama Calculator, "The calculations for fisheye lenses are theoretical and that PanoCalc makes an assumption that their fields of view never exceed 180°. When thinking of a particular lens please check the manufacturers information." Download PanoCalc 360-degree Panorama Calculator. Reference: http://www.panotool.com/pages/PanoCalc.html |
