Who would’ve thought that Google’s next StreetView project would New York’s very own Central Park? Last week, Google has successfully recorded the park’s 58 miles of pathway for you to take a seamless 360 degree street tour. People with Agoraphobia and Anthropophobia should be happy about this. One way or another, they can walk the park without facing their fear of social interactions.
No matter how futuristic 360 degree StreetView technology is, Google hopped on a very special tricycle all around the park last Monday but The New York Times reported, “The panoramic camera system has nine lenses mounted to the trike (with a whole a team of cyclists peddling the project forward).” These are the same vehicles that Google used in their previous StreetView Mapping Locations like that from Israel and Africa.
According to the conservancy’s president, Douglas Blonsky, “The Central Park has 38 million visitors a year, and we’re always looking doe ways to enhance their experience. The north end has some of the most beautiful sections of the park like the Cascades, the North Woods and the Harlem Meer.” All of which by the way, Google was able to record in two to three days and will be live in 360 degrees soon.
Another spokesperson from the conservancy said that Google photographers were strictly not allowed to talk to the press about their experience like if it’s hot or if their legs are tired of pedaling; none of that.
Cathy O’Connor, a frequent visitor of the Central Park, told in an interview that Google StreetView is awesome. “I have a funny, and I sometimes can’t do the long distances anymore. I am 64 years old and it would be nice to just see it on my computer.”
